85% of communication is non verbal

85% of communication is non-verbal. Yeah that's because it's all done via thumbs, and no, I'm not talking about sign language. Emails, text messages, instant messages, and even twitter are the new forms of communication. Not to mention, since the rapid increase in phone technology we have access to all of this in one device. I feel like I'm old even talking about this. I remember when my mom said no one writes letters anymore, but now I see what she meant. Writing letters helped her with her penmanship as well as her English. A piece of paper doesn't have spell and grammar check, so she was more cautious of what she wrote to ensure that her message was clear. Verbal communication is rapidly becoming a dead language. It seems like people don't know how to talk to one another anymore. The downfall of the convenience of "thumb communication" is that sometimes words can be taken out of context. I used to be so pro writing an email vs. talking on the phone (especially in an argument because I could sit down and think my thoughts out), but now I hate having meaningful conversations that are not face-to-face. Call me old fashioned, but I'd still rather talk on the phone than text, and I'd definitely rather have a heart-to-heart conversation face-to-face than via text message.
